So it's haute couture fashion week in paris, which i would have paid more attention to but it just so happened to be midterms week. However, they are over now, so I may fawn over the couture in peace. Although, I will make a confession: I have a much harder time falling for couture like I do with ready-to-wear. For me, couture is for designers to showcase their talents, to really go all out, and I admire the collections, but more as though they were on display at the Metropolitan than begin walked down the runway. That being said, I did have a few favorites that I'd like to share:

again, one of my favorite spring fashion trends is ALL THIS CRAZY HAIR!
and the soft pinks with the feminine florals and the draping
IT MAKES ME HAPPY

And this post would be complete if I did not admire dior for their outlandish drag queen style makeup:

I love it.

Screen Actors Guild Awards, SO much better than the Globes. Maybe it was the rain or something, but the actresses at the SAGs had a better overall presence than at the Globes. Once again, Kate Hudson flaunts her originality:

know what this dress makes me think of?

maybe it's because they're almost exactly the same.

Kate Hudson was really the only actress I was disappointed with. Oh my goodness, Kate Hudson in a white dress! How new! How fresh! See, this is why I admire the Olson twins. They're original, they're daring, they focus on more than just sex appeal.

On the topic of sex appeal, Harper's Bazaar claims that recessions cause women to dress sexier. If you want to wear it, wear it, that's my opinion. The Olson twins might not be very sexy, but if you can work it, by all means do. I recommend throwing on one of the many minis seen in Milan. Why is it not spring yet?

So I know that this is very overdue, but I would like to discuss the dresses from the Golden Globes. I wasn't very impressed by anyone. I was looking for that one breathtaking oh-my-god-that's-fabulous dress, and I never found it. Everything fashion statement made had been done before and then some. I don't think that stars have to be style groundbreakers every waking moment, but this is one of those big annual awards shows, and there really wasn't anything special.

oh and something that caught my eye:
they're not exactly the same, but they're very similar. they both look nice, though.

Went on a shopping spree sunday, bought some new classics (two button downs, a tuxedo-style jacket, a cream colored sweater with silver accents) that I can't wait to wear. I'm trying to figure out what to wear with my mint and white striped elizabeth and james button down. I also need to photograph and add my new pieces to "my style fashion assistant" on my itouch. I'll go look at the runways for inspiration.

Trying to figure out what to combine a sequin mini with for a small party tonight. Thinking of trying to replicate the dec/jan 2010 cover of Nylon. I'm sort of regretting getting rid of most of my tee shirts, especially since they're back in a big way. Must continue to scavenge through closet. Wish me luck.

I really like the lucite trend this season. There are a few shoes with lucite heels that are part seventies/part Pretty Woman but have this starkness to them that I find appealing. And if that doesn't work, there are still the lucite baubles to go with.

So I checked out the Louis Vuitton Spring '10 runway, and it is pure nonstop amazingness.

The hair. The sparkle. The draping. The accessories. It's fresh, unique, and out there in the best way possible. I'm in love on so many levels.

Also holding my attention? The drapey, printed red dresses seen at Dolce & Gabanna and Stella McCartney:

Though I see myself more in Dolce and Gabanna's super sexy leopard print number, I still adore the femininity of Stella McCartney's design. Although I might love this season's Louis Vuitton, I think I might have to have an affair with prints on the side.

Here's a fact: I love indie music. Listening to it makes me feel cool like I'm shopping in an East Village thrift shop. However, this is not the point of the story. Recently I was skimming through teen vogue (not as good as it used to be!) when I came upon a music review for a little "indie" band called vampire weekend. I now believe that vampire weekend is too mainstream to be indie anymore. But there's really no shame in alternative! Everybody's gotta sell out sometime.

I just realized that the time at the bottom of my posts is way off. I'll try to figure out how to fix it. Until then, ignore it.

New template, and working links! Hooray! Feel in love with the draping at Thakoon. Not really sure I have the body type for draping, but it's still super pretty. On the other hand, I could see myself in some of Vera Wang's party ready dresses. Also, the simplicity of Calvin Klein is what made it so especially lovely. I should take some time to look at Paris Fashion Week, but what can I say? I'm from New York. We know how to dress.

Looked at Marc by Marc Jacobs resort, loved the entire collection. My favorite part of it would have to be the all the ridiculous prints:

I am getting really excited to mix prints this spring. I have florals, but I'm thinking of investing in some super cool ombre southwest style stuff. The other part of the collection I loved? The shoes. Every single pair is totally unique, with a mix of leathers, metallics, and prints. Loving the boots:
however, I'm debating the practicality of boots in summer. Heat v. Marc Jacobs boots...I'm gonna have to think about this one. More prints that I love? DVF.
Absolutely beautiful, but I fear deeply for the fabric. I have this bad habit of spilling whenever I wear non-cotton/white. Perhaps I'll risk it. Maybe I'll finally gut up and get Docs like I've wanted to for so long. Oh well, back to purses.

Over road test/lack thereof. In love with Marc Jacobs resort 09:

I am loving the bras-as-tops under jackets trend. Have several jackets, need wearable bra top. Also love the resort swimwear:
if only I had somewhere to go. Then I could wear it instead of look at it online. Sigh. Also, love the shoes in the second picture. For spring I'm getting sky-high shoes, and then I will fall and people will laugh but I will look good doing it (I hope!) There's nothing strange about planning for my Spring Wardrobe in January. Nope, nothing strange at all.

Just found out that I can't take my road test until I take the five hour course. Not sure I really want to bother. I prefer walking anyway. Way less stressful.

Finished Dalloway and essay. Will spend the rest of the night lusting over this:

Why is it that I can never get my hands on any of the awesome "[random designer] for target" gear? It's so cool and then I go to target and it's never there. Perhaps Rodarte for Target and I were never meant to be. It's a shame too.

Still need to read Dalloway. Too busy reading Style Rookie. Would prioritize, but I majorly ♥ Tavi. Am I allowed to call her that? Oh well, she'll never read this.

Side note before I forget: the links on the sidebar do nothing. They might if I ever get a website to link them too.

I've kind of always wanted a blog, although I'm not sure they're the "in" thing anymore. I would have gotten a twitter, but I really can't fit my thoughts into 144 characters (or less!) I should probably be pouring over Mrs. Dalloway right now. It's a real shame that I'm way to busy looking at the Marc Jacobs runway from fashion week. I think Virginia Woolf would understand. If only my English teacher would too!
